Steve Jobs on stage
Steve Jobs was the king of "One more thing"

For years, Apple, and specifically Steve Jobs, was the king of "one more thing". When the "Stevenote" was nearing completion, Steve would pretend to be finished and then let the world know he had one more surprise for everyone. It was this last thing that was always different, unexpected, and sometimes, a game changer for Apple. This last surprise brought us the likes of FaceTime, Apple TV, and many of the category-defining iPods.

Does Apple have anything left in the Steve Jobs magic box?

This is not to say that Apple has gotten stale though some may argue that; this is simply to say that Apple has not been able to surprise us for quite awhile. Between internet leaks and outright confirmations, Apple's best kept secrets have been revealed long before Tim Cooks hit the stage. The revolutionary iPhone X was known around the world months before it was announced, and the colorful iPhone Xr was the talk of the tech community for weeks before it ever saw the light of day. Hell, we all seem to know about the iPad Pro redesign, and it will not be announced for over an hour; this was before the icon change discovered by 9to5mac.

I know leaks are great for tech bloggers like me because it not only gives us something to write about, but it allows us a chance to be the first to market with the news. We want the leaks because we want out readers to have fresh information; it is what keeps them coming back. However, at the same time, I want Apple to truly surprise us all today.

It is long since been speculated that this event will unveil the redesigned iPad Pro and the successor to much-loved Macbook Air. There has even been speculation that the Mac Mini or even Mac Pro could see an update today so we would not be truly surprised by any of this. I am sure those watching will have a checklist of what they believe will be announced, and they will be marking off the boxes as time rolls on.

But, could there be something unexpected?

Apple is due to surprise us with something they haven't even hinted at. Sure, they have discussed the future of AR/VR, but the chances of a headset seem unlikely. Maybe they will go the Microsoft route and announce new Siri-headphones, or maybe the real surprise will be the long-awaited AirPower going live. How about an update to iPad Mini or even an update iPod for working out since the iPhone has outgrown a person's arm?

Likely, we will see exactly what we are expecting, and the world will go on as expected. Today and tomorrow, tech enthusiasts will go on to read all about the new devices and how great they are (as they are likely to be). But maybe, just maybe, Cooks and Co. can cook up a little of that Steve Jobs magic, and they can give us just "one more thing".
