The new Disney+ is launching late 2019

Disney has finally shed some light on its upcoming streaming service including giving a name, logo, and glimpse in to the layout.

Disney+ will launch late 2019, and will bring all of its properties under one roof including the vast Marvel Universe and the beloved Star Wars family; it will obviously house the princesses and everyone's favorite mouse as well. While very simple, the Disney+ name makes perfect sense. It allows the Disney brand to be easily identified while also maintaining name-consistency with its other subscription-based streaming service, ESPN+.

In addition, we have finally been given an idea of how the service will be structured. Despite being a very Hulu and Netflix-style service, Disney intends to greatly differentiate the user experience. Netflix and Hulu, while sorting properties by genre, tend to group all titles together whereas Disney, like their theme-park, plans to offer 5 distinct "areas" with their own home hubs. Disney-owned properties (Mickey, princesses), Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and National Geographic will all have separate homes under the Disney+ umbrella making it seem as if you are receiving five separate services for the price of one; this will "superserve" customers, according to CEO Bob Iger.

Along with the overall layout, Disney has also given a glimpse in to what shows can be expected , including the rumored Tom Hiddleston-centered Loki series and Star Wars prequel series. Iger does plan to offer more information as the service gets closer to launch, but it is telling that Netflix-based Marvel series are dropping like flies. Interestingly, Iger did state that Disney-owned series could be pulled from cable to be put on Disney+ if they feel that it would help best monetize the property. This would suggest that series such as Freeform's Cloak and Dagger could find their way to the streaming service.

Disney does not plan to entirely abandon Hulu, which they will be the majority owner of, after Disney+ launches as they are anticipating utilizing new Fox executives to help bolster adult-targeted content on the streaming giant. More information is likely to come out as launch day approaches, but in the mean time, get your fill of Marvel and Star Wars properties on Netflix while you can; in the future, that is going to cost you another subscription cost per month.
