Does everything need dark mode?

I know, crazy right? I may be the odd one out here (maybe I am crazy), but I am not obsessed with the idea. Do some people love, love, love dark mode? Of course. Does everything need it? I don't think.

Just bear with me here.

It seems we have finally come to the point where people are in love with everything being dark, and believe me, I do understand their point. Dark colors (modes) have a lot of benefits. They are much easier on the eyes, preserve battery, and just looks plain sharp.

Trust me, I get it. I loved the look of Windows Phone. With its dark black and the accenting blue, it was easily the most gorgeous phone OS I had interacted with. There was just something about that deep black on an OLED screen that just looked like the pinnacle of class.

However, Material Design has completely changed by thought.

Maybe I am alone in all of this, but there is something so beautiful about that bright pop of white. When I look at the updates to Messages, Assistant, Gmail, et cetera, I can't believe the fascination people have with dark modes. That shining bright white just looks amazing on a brightly-lit gorgeous mobile display. There is just no comparison.

Do I understand why some may not like the new white fascination that Google has? The answer is yes. When I am in bed and want to look at my phone in the dark, the whites are BRIGHT, and the brightly lit pixels will surely drain battery slightly faster than dark pixels. But man, does that white look sharp or what? Say what you wish about the extra white in every app and obsess over dark mode if it makes you happy, but the bright crisp white of the new material is as gorgeous as it gets.
