Fear not Twitter world; you are not in danger of losing a mass amount of followers

Trust me, your followers will be just fine

Do not fear Twitter world, you and your followers will not be purged (probably).

If you have not heard, the world of Twitter is getting infinitely less crowded by the day. Announced a little while back and finally being implemented, Twitter has begun purging locked accounts from the rolls; this is not to be confused with "Fake" accounts and bots although being done for similar purposes. The idea behind this move is eliminate long forgotten accounts that have done nothing other than boost follower numbers for quite some time.

You may have woken up the last few days to see that individuals, mainly celebrities, were losing mass amounts of followers overnight. For instance, Donald Trump lost over 300,000 of his 53 million followers while Barack Obama also took a hit of over 2 million lost followers out of his 103 million. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced that even he lost over 200,000 of his Twitter following; I mean we are not talking about a small number of people here.

However, before you start to panic, remember a few things. One, for most of my followers, you don't have nearly that many followers to start with so I can assure you that you will not be losing what you do not have (sorry). Two, the followers you do have are in really no danger of going anywhere. The point of purging locked (and fake) accounts is to eliminate accounts that have been inactive for quite some time. While celebrities may have a large quantity of these followers, chances are most people have followers consisting of friends and some parody accounts.

While the thought of losing a mass amount of followers sounds scary, I can assure you that you will be just fine. Celebrities may be losing over 1 million followers, but you are in danger of losing very little. Even though it is not my intention to judge my readers, I am sure that many do not have enough locked and bot followers that losing them would really make a dent in their follower numbers.
