Google is trying to help us all be a little more informed about our college choice

Not long ago, it appeared that Google was ready to do deals with the devil; that is what the world thought at least. When Google removed 'Don't Be Evil' from the code of conduct, people were betting that Google was finally admitting that it was not quite the angel that it once postured to be. However, it would seem that Google is still trying to fight for the good side.

Yes, that was 100% a hyperbole of the greatest variety.

Admittedly, this is not about how Google feels about the greater good or what behavior they view as evil, but it is more about something small that could have a huge benefit for the future leaders of this country.

Having gone through the college search and application process not so long ago (only about a decade ago), I can certainly remember the challenges in finding the right information to make the best decision possible. There are many remarkable institutions, and I honestly believe that any educational institution is valuable. However, there are many factors to picking a school and not every school is right for every person.

When it comes to picking out a school, it is important to have the right information before committing to a $40,000+ investment. Now, most institutions do not intentionally hide their information; I don't believe that any non-profit university is out to scam students. However, that information may not be the easiest thing to find among the endless pages on a university's webpage.

Google is the king of providing information

Don't worry: Google is here to help.

In their newly updated Knowledge Graph Cards, people can find information such as tuition costs, majors, graduation rate, and job placement from just a Google search. This information will pull from areas including the institution's page as well as the U.S. Department of Education. Not only will Google present the important educational information, but it will even provide information such as student demographics, student life, and notable alumni.

Updated Knowledge Graph Cards will provide relevant information and charts to aid prospective students

While this information may not seem relevant to some, it does provide an in-depth look at each university as a whole to make it easier for prospective students to make a knowledgeable choice for their future. As students (and adults) frantically try to navigate the path of higher education, Google is doing their part to make the process just a little less painful, and I would say that is Google still doing their best to not be evil.
