Call screening

The launch of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were announced among some pretty great software features including different camera modes and app designs. One of the most useful, and incredible, features announced was "Call Screening", and it looks like it is now rolling out to the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

As robo-calls and telemarketer calls continue to rise in quantity, it has become harder to recognize a legitimate call from a scam one by just the phone number so Google's call screening looked to their AI to make the call. With call screening, when you receive a call, you have the option of letting AI take the call; it is similar to the "Duplex" feature that will be rolling out. When you choose to have AI answer the call, the caller will be informed that the individual is using a call screening feature to monitor phone calls. The caller will then be prompted to state their purpose for calling and proceed with the call.

The best part about the feature is that a running live-transcript of the call will be displayed on the screen; this allows you to monitor the content of the call to determine if you wish to answer it. You will have the option at any point to pick up the call, hang up the call, or block the number.

The feature will roll out to all Pixel 2's over a period of time when the phone updates; there will be no need to enable the feature as it will be present right in the phone screen. There is no official timeline for the feature to be enabled, but it comes along other Google updates this week including alarm-centered routines.
