Microsoft plans to launch Movies and TV on Android and iOS

In case it was not clear already, Windows Phone is dead, but Microsoft is still completely dedicated to the mobile world.

According to anonymous sources to Windows Central, Microsoft is planning to launch their Movies and TV app on Android and iOS. With the future launch of this app (which I am a huge fan of on Windows and Xbox), Microsoft will build on its already impressive portfolio of apps for other platforms which includes Microsoft Launcher, Outlook, and Cortana.

Make no mistake, Microsoft has not admitted complete defeat in the mobile world; they are definitely not satisfied with being just an application developer. As mentioned previously this week, Project Andromeda is still plowing full steam ahead as mobile-esque device that will handle all mobile needs (including calls and texts). While running a full OS, it will still feature the Windows Store that is banking on PWAs to be the app gap savior.

Even so, Microsoft has put itself in to an incredibly strong position in the mobile world. While the Surface Phone may never see the light of day, Microsoft remains a key player by inserting itself strongly in to Android and iOS devices. If Andromeda truly changes the market as they think it will, they will have the potential to join Google and Apple as a mobile power-player. The announcement of yet another Microsoft app in a competitor's app store is proof that they are here to stay; Windows Phone may be dead, but Microsoft's mobile life is fully alive.
