Netflix has pulled the plug on 'Daredevil' ending another Marvel show

As Disney+ gets closer to becoming a reality, Netflix's run of Marvel shows gets closer to ending. While The Defenders was a one-off from the start, it was expected that the individual series might continue until they were no longer viable. However, it was not long ago that Iron Fist, the most disappointing of the bunch, was axed from the streaming giant; it was shortly followed by Luke Cage, a decent show in its own right. Amid the cancellations, Daredevil, the original (and probably best), series debuted Season 3 to solid fan-fare.

However, the end has come for the devil of Hell's Kitchen.

Netflix has announced that Daredevil will not return for a 4th season leaving just Jessica Jones and The Punisher remaining on the streaming service; there have been no announcements for their future just yet other than the previously announced new seasons. Marvel TV on Netflix appears to be ending as Disney+ builds up its Marvel collection with new shows based on Loki and Scarlet Witch.

Despite the cancellation, there does appear to be a future for Daredevil. “While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel,” Netflix claims. The details are still limited for these "future projects", it is possible for the continuation of Daredevil on Disney+ or even movie appearances as he does fit in to the MCU. At this point, it is unlikely a Daredevil-centric movie is in the works due to the critically-panned previous iteration despite the rave reviews of Charlie Cox and Vincent D'onofrio (Daredevil and Kingpin, respectively).

As dark as times seem right now for the future of Daredevil, it is certainly not the end. Daredevil remains a highly popular character, and the Netflix show was repeatedly praised as possibly the best of Marvel/Netflix TV. We will just have to wait for more details of where Murdock and Nelson will end up, but chances are, we have not seen the last of them.
