Player Unknown's Battlegrounds, commonly known as PUBG, is now free for Xbox users. Xbox users can find it on the Microsoft Store as always, but it will now be free to download and keep. There is no indication as to how long this promotion will last as well as if those who had already spend the $29.99 will receive a store credit.
A Battle Royale game along the lines of Fortnite and Call of Duty's new Blackout mode, PUBG launched as a game preview on the Microsoft Store just last year. While it has received a large following, performance issues, as well as the popularity of the free Fortnite, have caused tremendous headaches for the game which appears to only have a 3 star rating on the Microsoft Store.
The free promotion for the full 1.0 version of PUBG is available now for all Xbox users only; rumors suggest PUBG could be coming to the PlayStation 4 as early as next month. There is nothing to suggest that this promotion will apply to the PS4 when it launches. It looks like this could simply be Microsoft taking one last liberty with the exclusivity it paid for over the last year.
