Google Chromecast

The low-cost, casting puck by Google has finally returned to Amazon...about a year after they announced it would.

A little while back, Amazon announced that any device that did not support Amazon's Prime Video service would not be sold on the online retailer's marketplace; the claim was "avoiding customer confusion". This ban led to both Google's Chromecast as well as Apple's AppleTV being yanked from the site. With the introduction of the Prime Video app on AppleTV last December, Apple's streaming device found itself back in Amazon's good graces. Amazon, about a year ago, announced that, despite the lack of support, Chromecast would be back on the site with AppleTV, but it appears it took a whole year for Google to get back in.

Even with this small olive branch, it is doubtful that the endless war between Amazon and Google is going to come to a close. The Echo Show, Amazon's marquee smart display, is still without official YouTube support, and Google infamously lashed out at Amazon's browser workaround. In addition, Amazon's Fire streaming devices still noticeably lacks YouTube, a key deficiency due to YouTube's massive popularity on larger screens.

Let's all hope that this little gesture helps mends the fence as more and more tech companies embrace partnership (Amazon & Apple, Microsoft & Google).
