Baphomet statue

Fans can breathe easy: Sabrina appears to be safe for the time being.

When The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina launched last month, based on the Archie Comics character, viewers surely caught a glimpse of one large, goat-headed statue displayed prominently in the center of The Academy of Unseen Arts. Many took this statue to be a statue of this universe's Lucifer, the Dark Lord and fallen Angel so happily worshiped by Witches and Warlocks of the world. As it turns out, this is actually a statue of Baphomet, the prophet, and Netflix and Warner Bros. may not have been authorized to use it.

The Satanic Temple, owners of the trademark for this portrayal of Baphomet, filed a lawsuit against the production stating that not only did they not have authorization to use the statue, but that the use of the statue connected them with Satan worship and witchcraft; for the record, they are not associated with either. Ironically, rather than blame the productions for their lack of research and blatant use of trademarked material, The Satanic Temple came under attack for going after the show.

It now appears that the lawsuit has been settled amicably by both parties, and the show will likely go on with Part 2 (as if there was any chance it would not). While details are confidential for the final terms of the agreement, it does appear The Satanic Temple will get credited for their materials. The Temple will get recognition in the end credits for the statue, and I would imagine, a disclaimer distancing them from any of the activities associated with the characters.

Call this a win-win scenario as The Satanic Temple can move forward in peace, and a very good show (which I binged quickly) will get to continue entertaining the masses.
