You cannot un-see the notch on the leaked ASUS ZenFone 6

It is no secret that the greatest mobile technology controversy of our age (or at least last two years) is the notch. From Essential's and OnePlus's minimal notch to the wider iPhone and deeper Pixel notch, notches have dominated tech headlines. Whether you love them, hate them, or tolerate them, one thing can always be said about the notches: they were centered.

And now, according to leaks, ASUS may be bringing us the most egregious design choice ever imagined with its notch.

The new ZenFone 6 appears to showcase a beautiful bluish metallic back with a simple triple camera setup. Next to the camera, there is fingerprint sensor suggesting they opted to avoid the in-display scanner for now. Flipping the phone over, you can see a standard, slightly-thinner "chin" and nice large screen with a single camera lens. It appears that everything is fairly standard as far as 2018 Android phones go.

However, it appears that turning the screen on will give you a bigger shock than It, Insidious, and Halloween combined. While a tiny, water-drop-esque notch in the screen would ordinarily not draw attention, it certainly will if it is dramatically off-center, and this notch placement is horribly terrifying.

ASUS shifted their camera sensor just about 1/4" off of the edge of the device rather than in the center. With this placement, it leaves the system approximately enough room for maybe the clock, but oh wait, that moved to the left. While it could possibly fit the battery icon, it certainly isn't enough for other indicators such as LTE, WiFi, DND, etc.

The only logical explanation I can think of is they wanted everyone to have extra room for notifications; this is a common complaint about the notch of course. But, by robbing Peter to pay Paul, what have they accomplished? Not only did they cut out essential room for indicators on the left, but they just gave me and my fellow OCD individuals severe nightmares for weeks.

Who knows if the Zenfone 6 (a word for peace mind you) will actually release with this design. My only suggestion would be shift that baby right back to the center, and please, please round out those corners on the notch. All I can see right now is someone taking a hole-punch to the edge of the screen...and I cannot un-see it.
